In their own words

   One of the aspects of this new commercial digital communications age is the passing of the finely crafted promotional print material. The corner stone of these materials were the Media Kit. The media Kit was a folder into which could be placed any number of individual pieces highlighting the entire company, the staff and the services offered.
   Promotional materials were annualized publications that included trade show brochures and media material. Now they are absolute research documents, fully defining their operations.
   Because of my commecial relationship with the design houses in Turin, I have collected a number of these materials. Over the coming weeks and months I will be uploading a number of these.
Here, as the title implies, is a history of Italian automotive industrial design, In Their Own Words.

   The Italdesign media kit below was given to me by Giorgetto Giugiaro at a meeting in the conference room at Ital. It was autumn of 1992 and we were discussing a tv production.
   We had spent the previous six hours touring every foot of their operation, and having it fully explained.
   As time went on I was sent every piece of print material Ital produced.  This media kit describes, in great detail, how Ital was structured. The cars shown illustrate the prototyping operation. Dating to 1992 it is a veritable time capsule, covering in great detail projects of the eighties and before..
   The publication below is one of three in this series discussing Pininfarina’s operation. This was sent to my by Lorenza Pininfarina. This arrived with about a dozen internal production promotional publications. We had started discussing tv production work and had moved off, in the mid 1990s, to consulting about future digital media projects.
   Over the next few months I will be adding the other publications to this section of the site.
