Switching gears…
This photo of the driver’s activity center of a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham is the introduction for this two photo series. Each of the 400 custom order Cadillacs were hand built. Cost being the market limiting factor at $13,000. This was approximately the same cost as a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud I.
We can see some of the defining characteristics of the Eldorado here, the complex compound curve windshield, the incredible production detail of the vent below, the fender vents, and the brushed stainless steel roof. Through the mildly tinted glass we can spot the brocade fabric of the driver’s seat.

On the following page one of the eccentric design details to notice are the two B52 jet engine exhaust nacelles as instrument panel elements. Ed Glowacke and his GM design team didnt miss much in their expression of late 1950s luxurious design themes.
Interesting to note that they made sure that this 5,318 lb  Brougham could move along smartly in LA traffic. Its 365 cubic-inch V8. With dual quads, pumped out 325 horsepower. Only Chrysler’s 392 Hemi moved more air through its lungs.
